Altitude Affects Attitude!

Altitude Affects Attitude...in Asheville NC that's more than just a statement...it's a long standing way of life.

I read once that part of the Appalachian culture is one of peaceful co-existence. That belief is evident daily, whether you choose to enjoy the diverse cultures along a bricklined street sidewalk cafe or immerse yourself and enjoy it first hand at Bele Chere.

At the turn of the century while Vanderbilt was building Biltmore, the largest single family home in America and thousands of Arts & Crafts cottages were springing up, visitors were discovering the healing powers of the mountains. Today, we enjoy an emerging holistic and alternative healthcare environment, alongside the traditional, yet nationally recognized health care faculties.

As I write this, the sun sets over our famed Blue Ridge mountains and a lone golfer heads for the clubhouse on one of our many world-class golf courses. Tomorrow it's a kayak trip down the French Broad River, or a bike trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway...someday I'll learn to fly-fish. As the saying goes...so many choices, so little time!

Rarely a day goes by that someone doesn't ask me why I chose Asheville. I have found the best response is to simply smile and reply... it chose me.

I hope you enjoy using my website. Feel free to make suggestions, this is for you to use and enjoy. I look forward to welcoming you to Asheville and all that Western North Carolina has to offer.

MORE ON ASHEVILLE & OUR REAL ESTATE MARKET

For those of you who would like to know more...read on.

I developed this website to be somewhat different from the many others you will see. I wanted to focus on the whole experience of Asheville and the surrounding areas, not just selling real estate. Yes, that is how I make my living, but it is necessary to get a feel for the area, as well as the real estate market.

When I first decided to leave the White Mountains in New Hampshire, I had been to Asheville several years before, and it had left an impression on me, a kind of draw, to come back and see what this mountain community had to offer.

Over the past 10 years Asheville has grown from a sleepy small town along the French Broad River to being the #1 Relocation City in the Country! We are constantly rated as the place to retire, the place to visit, the best place to see weird people...we have become a Destination Spot, whether it is for relocation or investment, year round living or vacation get-a-ways. We have gated golf communities, stately mountain-top retreats and secluded compounds as well as quaint Arts & Crafts bungalows, several downtown historic districts and surrounding new home communities. And Asheville Airport (AVL), just south of the city, makes it all so easy to access from anywhere.

Our historically vibrant downtown architecture was spared from the 50's-60's blight of Urban Renewal, and is surging forward with our own twist on downtown growth and revitalization, with uptown condos, galleries and eateries.  Much of our historic architecture, such as Grove Park Inn, features stone work that will leave an impression as lasting as the stonework itself. Many of our new home communities, such as Biltmore Lake & Hamburg Crossing feature traditional Bungalow styles, while the older communities of Haw Creek and Biltmore Forest feature a wide array from brick ranchers to expansive colonial mansions.

Whether you choose to explore our northern communities of Weaverville, Mars Hill and Leicester, head west to artsy Black Mountain, Swannanoa and rolling hills of Fairview or visit our Biltmore communities in the growing south or the exploding West Asheville revitalization, there is something for everyone.

Heading out from Asheville one will find Hendersonville, with a strong senior community, Marshall with it's emerging rustic art scene, Lake Lure's resort amenities, Waynesville's mountain sports, Tryon's equestrian seat, each sporting their own uniqueness. Equestrian estates, lake front communities, soaring log estates, summer stock theatres and secluded cabins by a stream and an artistic community that is the envy of many, yes we have it all here in Western North Carolina.
